I typically don't set goals for myself, for all the obvious reasons people don't. I will however set up a mission for myself; that is, an objective to reach, that's the military background in me. Maybe it's just using a different word in the end.
My TCDB trades are usually all over the place as far as my Angels collection goes, and that's fine but in order to focus my collecting for this year I decided to pick a year that I wanted to concentrate on and my mission would be to try to obtain as many missing Angels cards as I can from that year. Oh, I'll still take any Angels offered, but my trade proposals will try to be 1987 centered.
I knew I would need to pick an earlier year that would be more realistic, one without all the crazy parallel, numbered, and relic cards, so I went with 1987. I was recently in that binder when it dawned on me that I might already have most of the Angel's cards from 1987. Currently TCDB has my 1987 California Angels collection at 67.2% complete.
Probably the bulk of the missing items will be Topps Tiffany and O-Pee-Chee stickers, Fleer Glossy, and Odd-balls.

I realize that there will be some things that will be difficult to get, or too expensive for my tastes, so I'm okay not having those. But I'm pretty sure that I can pick off all if not most of the common stuff. I'm also not including any of the single or double asterisk, period or no period variations, unless it's for a PC guy, and no coins, and probably not sheets or panels.
Shouldn't be too hard.
All the cards above came in a trade with shadowblind and that Mark McLemore 1987 Broder Rookies is the first card I've received towards the 1987 effort.

I'll enjoy following along with your Project 1987. That was the first year I collected so it always gives me the feels when I see the cards.
ReplyDeleteGlad the envelope arrived safely! I've been kicking myself the last couple weeks that I ended up giving away a bunch of bulk last year. No telling how many Angels might have been in there.
I've got some cards put aside for you, but I think I might know where the 87 O Pee Chee cards I have might be. I'll try to find them tonight.
ReplyDeleteTrying to get things buttoned up as far as organization on TCDB. Cards are kind of all over the place and I have a combination of paper lists and lists on my blog, so trying to consolidate a bit to make things easier to find in my lists. Chasing a few different sets right now, too.
