No Need To Supersize Me

I'm not a collector of larger-sized items like bats, gloves, jerseys and such, not even baseballs. I used to have a dozen or so signed baseballs but most of those are gone now. I had a Nolan Ryan signed seat back from the old Arlington Stadium, that's been sold. No room to display them, so why have them if they just sit in a box in the closet right?

I've had bats, in fact I used to have a small bat collection. The only ones left are a Dick Schofield model that was his when he played for the Angels in the 90's and a signed Harmon Killebrew that was recently given to me. Again, I just don't have the room.

But I'm more than happy to get a relic card like those above. Just a piece of a bat is more like it.

Numbered cards are really nice too.

These all came in a TCDB trade with MMehler30.

These recently came in from Stuart...

...as a "glad you're back to blogging" gift.
Pretty sweet Collectors Edge clear cards.

And that Jansen is numbered to 25, very nice.
Thanks Stuart!

And a TCDB trade with levelbrickblow:

What? An Indians logo card?
It's a checklist I need, same with the Rolen.

And another with bcmeeker:

Antwine is the only Patriot in the 1970 Topps Super Glossy set.

And finally a trade with LoQtus (The Collective Mind)

That Napoli is the SP catching variation.

Are you a collector of large items?

  1. Hooray for more TCDb trades! I still love the designs of earlier relic cards, especially from the Donruss/Leaf/Playoff heyday. Wilmy Caceres and Elpidio Guzman are from a time when I probably could have recognized almost any current MLB name you threw at me. Now it feels like 75% of active players are bullpen guys. Anyway, I also don't tend to chase after larger items but I've had a few sent to me by some generous folks and I really appreciate that they did that.

  3. I try not to collect the larger items. If it is a Brave I have to think extra long, lol.

  4. Lovely pick-ups. I can't decide how I feel about die-cut cards like that Kendrick. I know I have a couple, but they are just weird to me. Maybe because I wasn't collecting when they became a thing? I've always wanted a bat and could easily find wall space for it. But it's super low on my priority list and budget. I have a few signed balls from childhood (Gooden, Pete Rose) and recent (Trea Turner), and two balls I physically caught (Boston, Cleveland) during BPs. But, for the most part, it's relics...
