Omar Olivares signed as a free agent with the Angels on December 11, 1997 after being granted free agency by the Mariners.
On Friday April 3, 1998, at home against the Cleveland Indians, he relieved starter Jack McDowell in the top of the 8th trailing 1-5 and on his first pitch got David Justice to fly out to centerfield. He ended the night giving up 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 2 in 2 innings of work.
And that's how Omar Olivares made his Angels debut.
